Patents, Trademarks, and Other Intellectual Property

BACKGROUND

The bill revises and restates certain laws relating to trademarks and other intellectual property and enacts those provisions as subtitles III and IV of title 35, United States Code, and redesignates that title as "Patents, Trademarks, and Other Intellectual Property".


The bill was prepared by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel as part of its ongoing responsibility under section 205(c) of House Resolution No. 988, 93d Congress, as enacted into law by Public Law 93-544 (2 U.S.C. 285b), to prepare and submit to the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives, one title at a time, a complete compilation, restatement, and revision of the general and permanent laws of the United States.

MAJOR ACTIONS AND STATUS

  • April 26, 2006.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an initial draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House and Senate Judiciary subcommittees with jurisdiction over intellectual property.
  • February 23, 2007.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted a draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 110th Congress.
  • January 23, 2008.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 110th Congress.
  • January 30, 2009.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 111th Congress.
  • February 9, 2011.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 112th Congress.
  • February 1, 2013.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 113th Congress.
  • June 11, 2015.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 114th Congress.
  • January 6, 2017.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 115th Congress.
  • October 18, 2017.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 115th Congress.
